  1. About us

Our vision, mission, strategy and values

Previously known as the Cambridgeshire Society for the Blind and Partially Sighted, CamSight was originally formed in 1912 and has over 100 years of providing dedicated support to people with low vision and blindness across Cambridgeshire and Peterborough.

We are a Charitable Incorporated Organisation (CIO), registered with the Charity Commission for England and Wales, and our Registered Charity number is 201640. You can find our official details here on the Charity Commission website.

We support c.1,900 people, managing 2,500+ cases every year. Many of our service users rely on us for ongoing help, but every day someone new gets in touch.

Our Vision

A world where people who have low vision and blindness feel supported, included and valued.

Our Mission

CamSight is a Cambridgeshire charity working with local people who have low vision and blindness. We enhance independence, well-being and inclusion through practical and emotional support.

Our Strategy

Our strategy guides us and keeps us focussed on our priority areas, while also allowing room to evolve and grow to respond to the ever-changing needs of the people who use our service. You can view our 2026-2029 Strategy as either a PDF, or in a large print Word document.

To view the PDF, please click here and it will open in your browser. To download the large print Word document, please click here.

Our Values

We aim to uphold the following values in all that we do:

Person-centred

Everyone’s sight loss manifests uniquely, meaning that our support is tailored to each individual’s needs and preferences.

Empowering

We provide the information, support and advice to help people to retain independence and remain connected to what matters to them. We invest in our staff and volunteers to feel confident that they are delivering the best service possible.

Friendly

We are a listening ear, either at the end of the phone or in person. We have a welcoming and professional working environment, where everyone is encouraged to contribute and support each other.

Collaborative

We are flexible and adaptable in our approach, always looking to build partnerships and networks for the benefit of our beneficiaries.

Accountable

We are accountable to each other and to our beneficiaries. We monitor and report our impact, our finances, our progress, and our plans in an open and honest way. We build trust through transparency. We welcome feedback and we work to improve.
