Chesterton Primary School took a vibrant stand in support of World Sight Day by going ‘Bright for Sight’ on Thursday, 10th October. Pupils came to school dressed in their brightest clothing to raise funds and awareness for local sight-loss charity, CamSight.

The event was a collaborative effort between Chesterton Primary School and CamSight, a charity based in Chesterton dedicated to supporting people with visual impairments. As part of the day’s activities, CamSight representatives led an engaging assembly for the students, teaching them the importance of regular eye tests, the role of a healthy diet in maintaining good vision, and the services provided by the charity to support visually impaired individuals in the community.

Ella, from CamSight’s Fundraising team expressed her thanks for the school’s participation:

“A big thank you to Chesterton Primary School for going ‘Bright for Sight’ to celebrate World Sight Day! It was wonderful to see all the pupils in their colourful outfits, supporting our sight loss services. It’s crucial to educate children early on about the importance of eye health, preparing them for eye tests, and encouraging them to take care of their eyes through exercise and healthy eating.”

Miss Victoria Storey, Headteacher at Chesterton Primary School, said:

“The children at Chesterton Primary thoroughly enjoyed participating in a day filled with fun activities, all designed to celebrate our vibrant community, whilst shining a light on the incredible work that CamSight does. The assembly, led by the team, was very informative and the children enjoyed learning about the different ways CamSight support people with partial sight or blindness. This event not only allowed our students to express their creativity and individuality but also played a vital role in raising funds for a worthy cause.”

Ella continued:

"This initiative has been a fantastic way to connect with the community. Working with a school right around the corner from our offices has allowed us to build new relationships and spread awareness in a meaningful way."

Chesterton Primary School’s participation in World Sight Day is part of a broader effort to raise awareness and support initiatives that promote eye health and empower those living with vision impairments. All funds raised from the event will go directly towards supporting CamSight’s services and activities in the local community.
