We are delighted to announce that Maria our Support & Advice Worker has been recognised as a Charles Bonnet Syndrome Champion by our partner charity, Esme's Umbrella.

Maria will be a vital resource for raising awareness and offering much-needed support for those living with Charles Bonnet Syndrome (CBS) in Cambridgeshire. Her work with with all our clients at CamSight, supporting people of all ages with low vision and blindness, makes her a perfect advocate for their cause.

Charles Bonnet Syndrome (CBS) develops in a child or adult who has a variable amount of sight loss. It causes vivid, silent, visual hallucinations which range from disturbing to terrifying. No other sense is involved. It is not a mental health condition, but caused entirely by loss of sight.

Maria commenting about the appointment;

"I'm really looking forward to working closely with Esme's Umbrella to develop my knowledge on the condition of Charles Bonnet Syndrome and in turn offer my advice and support from my experience working with our Service Users, some of who have been directly affected by this syndrome.

"It can be very frightening to experience intense hallucinations, and as part of this champion role will be educating more people about CBS and reassuring them that they are not alone and that it is not a mental health condition."
