CamSight is saddened to hear about the passing of Alice Zeitlyn MBE last weekend. Alice was a few weeks short of her 101st birthday and anyone that knew Alice will acknowledge she had a long and rewarding life. Alice was a committed long-serving CamSight volunteer who made a valuable contribution.

Alice began teaching Braille in 1988 and helped over 150 people to learn. Alice was passionate about teaching and promoting the value of Braille as a proven literacy tool that enriches the lives of blind people - you would often hear Alice refer to Louis Braille as her “pin-up boy".

Not only did Alice spend many hours as a volunteer teaching Braille, she also dedicated her time supporting CamSight service users in other ways including sewing on buttons and mending clothes, driving, befriending, and raising funds by making and selling jam, attending street collections and supporting fundraising events and initiatives.  Alice really was one of a kind.

In 2008 Alice was honoured in the Queen's New Year List with an MBE for her service to the community in Cambridge.

CamSight sends deepest sympathies to Alice’s family and friends.
