Anglia Ruskin University (ARU) offer a wide range of high-quality optometric services to the general public, wherever you live, and is open for bookings.

The clinic is based at their East Road campus, Bradmore Street, Cambridge, CB1 1BD, and appointments can be made by calling 01223 698070.

The clinic is fully accessible and boasts 15 fully equipped optometric consulting rooms which include specialist facilities for detailed ocular imaging, contact lens fitting, low vision assessments and visual stress assessments.

Students are fully supervised by qualified optometrists who are a mixture of academic lecturers and visiting clinicians from the local community.

Free Low Vision Assessment appointments are available most Thursdays. The assessments could be suitable for a range of patients including:

  • People who would benefit from time to explore and explain their visual function and difficulties
  • People who would like to be seen quickly
  • People about to start mobility training, where a report of visual function (including visual fields) could be relevant to the mobility trainer
  • People with an upcoming Access to Work assessment, where a report of visual function and evidence-based suggestions of need could be valuable
  • People requiring visual assessment for British Blind Sport recreational sight classification.
